Rearing calves on a dairy farm from birth to 10 weeks. looking after up to 90 calves, this has a range of tasks, such as making sure new born calves receive adequate amounts of colostrum, hand feeding new born calves for the first week of life, training calves on automatic feeders after the first week, vaccinating calves, tagging ears and jagging sick calves. Also checking on in-calf cows and heifers and helping with calving if needed. Ad-hoc DIY jobs, such as building up single pens, and deconstructing for mucking out, and keeping up to date paper work and information on all calves. Also fully trained on heat detection with cattle, done clipping and milking, though not fully experienced but willing to learn.

Farming background

Raised in farm surrounding, with an ex dairy farmer Grandfather whom originates from Dumfries where his family still work in farming. Currently live on an arable and beef farm, tend to help out and learn as much as I can when I can.

Hobbies

I have a keen interest in photography, primarily agriculture.  In my free time I tend to be found on the farm photographing cattle or tractors, or going to shows during show season.  I also enjoy helping out on the farm as and when needed, or just going out in the tractor and seeing how everything is done.
