Working Herd Manager or Farming Couple Required

We have an exciting opportunity for a Working Herd Manager or Farming Couple to take ownership of a grass-based dairy herd on a newly established farm in Welton, Northamptonshire.

Our Farm

We are a successful multi-site dairy business operating in the midlands focussed on block calving and grazing, and are now looking to fill a vacancy at our newly established dairy farm which sits alongside two existing dairy farms.

Ashby Grange farm is a simple system with 280 late spring calving cows operating on a flying herd basis with all cows served to beef and replacements sourced from the other farms. There is an 82ha milking platform and away ground providing silage. Any fieldwork including fertiliser spreading is done via an inhouse tractor driver or external contractors.

Facilities include a new 24/48 milking parlour, auto drafting gate, 260 cubicles and loose housing for 30 cows. Cow manager is utilised and herd management is through Uniform and Agrinet.

Your role

As a Working herd Manager, you will be leading the day-to-day management of the herd with support from an assistant herdsperson and relief.

Role and responsibilities will include:

-Full management of the herd ensuring highest animal welfare and milk quality for a retailer aligned contract.

-Leading a small team effectively and developing their skills.

-Achieving herd milk and feed targets

-Computer literacy for accurate entry of records. Other admin office support from the owners.

-Responsible for a Telehandler, scraper tractor and quadbike and general farm maintenance.

-Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate.

You

You will need to demonstrate at least 5 years dairy experience and knowledge of grass based dairy cow management.

AI & Foot Trimming experience is essential.
