We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to joing our progressive 300 cow grass based dairy farm located on the Isle of Bute, Scotland. Our herd calves in a 8 week block from mid February with a strong focus on milk from grazed grass, excellent animal welfare and efficient, profitable milk production.
The successful candidate will work alongside the business owners and play a key role in the day to day running of the family farm. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills and take on greater responsibilities within a high performing dairy farm.
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Assist with all aspects of herd health and welfare
- Support breeding and mating management
- Assist with calving during the busy period
- Monitor cow condition, lameness and overall performance
- carry out high quality milking through a new 24/48 with auto teat spray
- Maintain excellent milk hygiene and quality standards
- Assist with grass management, measuring growth, setting up and moving temporary fencing
- Carry out routine fencing, and infrastructure maintenance
The ideal candidate will have the following skills & experience:
- Previous dairy farming experience
- Confident milking large herds
- Good stockmanship and attention to detail
- Strong worth ethic and a can do attitude
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work alone and part of a team
- AI qualification or willingness to learn
- Foot trimming experience
- Experience with pasture based dairy systems
