Full time Shepherd/Shepherdess/Arable Operator job - Oxfordshire
Arable, Sheep
UK
OX12
South & South East
Description

We are looking for a capable, forward thinking and motivated full time shepherd/shepherdess/arable operator to take responsibility for the care and management of our lamb finishing enterprise but with the

flexibility and enthusiasm to be involved in the arable side of the business.

Our current system finishes sheep through high welfare husbandry on a forage based system, with all the lambs finished on farm using temporary leys, forage/cover crops incorporated into the

arable rotation and permenant pasture.

The role will be particularly varied as you will have day to day responsibility for managing the sheep to maximise profitability while achieving high standards of welfare all while ensuring the objectives of the arable enterprise are met with stock movement and management.

It is important due to the nature of sheep numbers and seasonal demands of the business as a whole that this person is prepared to be involved in the arable enterprise.

Harvest is a key time of the year for us and so a significant amount of tractor work will be required in the summer months.

We are a small team and so flexibility to support with farm maintenance, fencing, tree work, fertilisier spreading, hay making and harvest is essential.

It is important for us to have someone

with experience and knowledge of the livestock primarily as this is a part of the business we would like to develop. Training can be given on the arable side if required with operations such as

fertiliser spreading, drilling and spraying; therefore someone with the right work ethic and enthusiasm to be part of a hard working team is most important.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a forward thinking business; developing the sheep enterprise to complement the regenerative arable operation and current rotation.

Due to the welfare aspect of the role there is accomodation available for the right person.

This is an excellent opportunity to be instrumental in developing the sheep enterprise on our farm.

We have recently increased our acerage and the potential for this part of the business is very exciting

and something as a business we are committed to.

Remuneration will be dependant on experience and the individual.

We do value experience but

also work ethic and so actively encourage someone young and enthusiastic where pay will be

reviewed regularly as the role develops.
