Responsibilities

Milking Cows, Close Up Calving Cows, Calves <24hrs

Health and Welfare

•Ensure that all animals are fit and well and treatment protocols and vaccines are followed and effective

•Work to rectify any environmental issues that would be causing health challenges by driving investment priorities to continue to improve cow health and performance.

People Performance and Welfare

•Leadership and people management is a very important part of this role. Leading from the front and driving the right outcomes whilst managing team workload.

•Good communication and regular 1:1s are expected with team members to support and understand the team.

•Drive training and investment priorities to continue to support people performance.

•Self-development is key and opportunities to learn and develop skills need to be planned and taken.

Milk Production

•Drive robot optimisation and performance ensuring regular cleanliness and routine maintenance.

•Work with Lely service team to reduce impact of servicing and down time.

Data & KPI Management

•Using DC305 to ensure timely entering of data and reviewing KPIs, raising positives and negatives for discussion to drive the business forward

Maintenance

•Ensure the barn is kept in good condition, ensuring infrastructure is working well or putting plans in place to fix it.

Adherence to Milk Contract Standards

•Understanding of Red Tractor, Tesco and Arla milk standards and ensuring that HFL is compliant 365 days a year

Farm Overview We sell milk to Tesco as Arla Members, and aim to calve all year round milk 400-420 cows through 8 Lely A5 robots with 3 Discovery Collectors. Currently producing 38Kg/Day @ 4.9%F and 3.85%P. The dairy aims to be cow first giving the cows more freedom and choice whilst giving the team the flexibility and time to do the best job they can. The goal is to intervene with cows as little as possible but as much as necessary. The dairy is one of two milking sites run by Huddlestone Farmers Ltd. A 2500 acre business in West Sussex. Alongside the dairy we have additional enterprises including; sheep, arable, commercial lets, beef and cheese production. Role Overview This is a new role, created to optimise the performance of the milking herd at Huddlestone Farm. The Herd Manager will be responsible for all animals and infrastructure within the milking barn. They will manage a team of three. Organise the teams time and rota and supporting other areas of the business.
