We are looking for a new permanent member of staff to join our small poultry team running both turkey breeding and rearing sites on the Northants/Cambs border in Hemington. In contrast to chickens, turkeys are slower growing and reared in smaller flocks. Depening on the season we are either growing meat birds for Christmas from day old with a brood and move system, or running our seasonal breeder site producing eggs for hatching. Although our first priority is always the health and welfare of our turkeys - there is often something to fix, or a problem to solve so I like my team to have a good attitude towards learning and taking on new challenges.

Duties will include:

• Daily flock checks, husbandry procedures and record keeping.

• Inseminating hens.

• Egg collecting.

• Mucking out/washing sheds and setting up ready for new birds arriving.

• Chick placement and loading older birds.

• Machinery repairs and maintenance.

• Muck spreading and bale chasing.

• Ensuring compliance with company biosecurity and health & safety policies.

• Assist in other areas of the business when required, for example arable field operations or estate maintenance.

This is a full-time roll which includes regular weekend work on a rota and overtime at busy periods.

Applicants must be physically fit, a good communicator and enjoy working within a team. This position requires a high level of hygiene and animal welfare with attention to detail, so will suit someone who is genuinely interested in poultry.

Driving license and forklift experience an advantage but not essential. Previous experience of working with poultry is favorable but not essential as further training will be provided where necessary. Your work ethic is more important than your skills.
