Business Statement

We have farmed at B*****Farm since 1928 and have developed a specialised dairy unit milking 280 cows and rearing our own replacements. We run a closed autumn calving herd on our 420 acres and grow 150 acres of maize and arable for the dairy. Our team consists of, Farm Manager, Herdmanager, Dairy Stock Person, Assistant Farm Manager, Assistant herdsperson (Placement Student).

We believe that a good working environment for staff and stock is the keystone to the success of our business. We have a rolling average yield per cow in the herd of 9,000lt at 4.5% butterfat and 3.5% protein. Our goal is to breed a herd of compact Friesian Holsteins with practical conformation, good milk quality and health traits, capable of high winter yields from TMR and robust summer grazing performance.

Dairy Stock Person: As part of a team of four milking twice a day through a 26:26 ADF herring bone parlour. Key tasks will include:

•responsibility for rearing 90 replacement heifers and 230 beef calves to 42 days old.

•Relief milking to cover days off and holidays, as part of our team.

•Helping with dairy duties when needed.

•Scraping, bedding.

•Some tractor driving (training if required)

•Grassland management.

•The Candidates will be involved in the AI and foot trimming (Full training will be given as required).

•Training in use of Uniform, Cow Manager and Omnia programmes.

Candidates require a full driving licence.

Candidates will be included in management meetings and planning decisions as we are keen to incorporate new ideas coming from all parts of the team.

Accommodation is a 3-bedroom cottage on site with an enclosed garden, central heated, council tax included. Situated on the North Wessex downs, in Ogbourne St George,4 miles from Marlborough, Wiltshire.

Regular structured time off plus 28 days holiday (per Annum) and bank holidays.
