A job working with livestock in the great outdoors - Northeast Norfolk

An opportunity arises for an assistant stock person on our unit just North of Great Yarmouth on the Northeast Norfolk coast where we have a large herd of pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle, a smaller herd of Wagyu cattle and also we undertake store lamb production. We have an extensive AI and embryo transfer programme ongoing engineered to improve our herd genetics. We have high health herd status and performance record all our cattle.

The successful candidate will undertake daily operations at the unit alongside the current Stockperson whilst supporting the business owner and with the ability to prioritise workload to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This role provides a high level of independence requiring demonstrable maturity, initiative and excellent communication skills

The role will involve:

Feeding using a JCB telehandler and Diet Feeder in winter as well as operation of a Spread a Bale

Assisting with moving stock to new locations both on foot and using a trailer

Putting up and taking down electric fencing

Routine handling

Vaccinations

Weighing

Emergency care for sick animals

You may also be required to work with the arable team at peak periods such as harvest. This may involve long hours but the hours can be flexible.

The successful candidate:

Some agricultural experience is desirable, however, further training in livestock and farm machinery operation will be given to the right person

You must clearly demonstrate a hard work ethic, a can-do attitude, and a genuine commitment to the care of animals

The role is outdoors, and you will need to love the British weather!

You will need to be physically fit to enable you to put up mobile handling systems, check cattle often on foot and other duties including estate maintenance during quieter times

You will need to have a driving licence for tractors as a minimum, but ideally a full driving licence either now or very soon

Weekend work on a rota basis is an essential part of the role.
