Self Employed Weekend Job. On a beef farm, which sold fat cattle and Hereford pedigree bulls. Tasks:

Feeding Silage

Bedding up with straw

Feeding Rolled oats to all the housed cattle. Bagging different rations

Feed the pigs

Assist with any sheep work

I would use a Manitou telehandler or Massey Ferguson loader tractor to help with my job. Furthermore I would check on stock housed during the winter and outside.

Also assisted with spring calving, when needed.


Arable and beef farm in Wiltshire. Comprising 500 acres of arable fields, permanent pasture, woodland, wildlife and game covers.

Main Responsibilities: cattle husbandry, including recording, ear tagging and rubber ringing new calves. Managing the grazing and moving the cattle to utilize the grass leys most efficiently. Ensuring their bedding was always clean enough in winter housing.

This job taught me how to use GPS. Enabling us finding areas to cut and selecting where has been cut. On a shared system.

Make sure all machinery/equipment is in safe working order and report to manger if not.

Gathering the cows for milking

Feeding Silage

Putting cows back

Delivering fresh milk to the processing unit

Washing sanitising milk transport tank

Scraping up

Feeding, bedding, watering Calves, youngstock/followers.

Feeding outdoor pigs vegetable and milk waste, alongside hard feed. Bedding their arcs with straw.

Checking on the sheep flock and beef cattle.

Feeding hens then collecting, cleaning, grading, stamping, boxing and delivering the eggs to the hotel.

Testing all stock fences and putting up new ones when required. Especially strip fences for cattle and sheep during the summer. Using Rappa ATV winder on Kubota RTV.

Mucking out dairy cow Roundhouse pens weekly. Using Manitou telehandler and Kubota tractor.

Unloading deliveries that with the telehandler.

Ensure all equipment used is maintained. Regular greasing and washing of machines weekly.

Relief milker for 50 approx. organic Guernsey cows in the 12 stall manual parlour.


Self Employed work. Member of the ground team for an experienced Tree Surgeon. Moving and chipping or logging timber and hedges. Operating rigging kit, Tipper Vans, Top Handle and larger back handle Chainsaws, Wood chippers (tracked & Trailed), Stump Grinder, Diggers and Avants. Encompassing hard work, safety, communication and team work. Ensuring the customers are happy with the progress, finish and clean up.
