My first position when leaving school was on Islay. Where I worked on afarm for 6 months as agreed helping out with lambing , calving. I also did some tractor work topping fields and filling silage wagons.
I then moved on to a full time position on a farm , Inveraray. Where I was for 3 years. Here I helped look after 400 bf Hill ewes and 60 xewes. They also had 40 cows calving in spring alongside lambing. Here we did a bit of everything from shearing , dosing , castrating and all other jobs associated with stock. Also did fencing and some small machinery repairs.
After this I moved on due to last position saying it was time for me to move on a inprove on my career. So I did a bit of contract fencing and gathering / sheep work until a job came a long also did a year in Campbeltown helping look after 300 cows and 1200 ewes.
I then moved another farm . Where I was for 3 and a half years . Here I helped with looking after 90 cows and about 2500/3000 ewes over two farms. They did all their own shearing and silage making so good to get this experience in. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here but had an urge to try contracting out again.
So I then moved on to contracting full time which Im currently still at doing everything from fencing to all types of stock work all over my surrounding area. I enjoy this as well but as Im sure youre aware in this industry contracting is all go in summer but when winter comes , income starts to become an issue , hence the reason considering a full time position.
