Farming background

Farm Park Assistant

The Farm Park is a working sheep farm attracting 300,000 visitors annually. I started as a part time worker at the age of 16 whilst still attending college and have since progressed to working alongside the livestock manager in their day to day roles. I have vast experience with sheep being a working sheep farm. I am also experience in lambing including the running of our lambing shed where we lamb around 300 ewes. During lambing times we also give live demonstrations to the public explaining the process and how we correct wrong presentations.

I am currently training my year old Border Collie, Pip. She is showing great potential and with time Im hoping will become a wonderful sheep dog.

As well as looking after the livestock side of the farm I am also versatile in my job and can lend my hand to all aspects of the farm, this can be anything from giving schools guided educational tours to driving tractor rides for our visitors or even helping cars park on a busy day. I am a well trained member of staff who can be depended on.

In my spare time I have been voluntary running childrens football teams with my brother for over 10 years. We take young people of all abilities and give them the opportunity to be part of a team, grow confidence and make new friends outside of their usual groups.

Where would you like to work?

I am looking to progress into other aspects of farming now and take my career to the next level. I am looking for somewhere I can gain experience, knowledge and also to challenge myself. Me and my partner are willing to relocate to the right job. She is currently the equine supervisor at the farm park and has extensive experience with horses and would hope to find work in that area but would also be more than happy getting stuck in on the farm should it be needed! We are looking for a long term opportunity where we can settle and really grow in both the job but in life too.
