Working here my jobs would vary I was responsible for ploughing, cultivation, sub soiling, ready for drilling the next crop. Rolling crop after it has been drilled, worn carting, bale carting, rowing up grass once it had been cut into swaths so that it could be baled, turning the grass so it could dry out to make hay, muck spreading to add extra nitrogen so that we could grow crops that require extra or more nitrogen such as sugar beet and maze, we grew maze, sugar beet, wheat, barley, and oil seed rape. Loading bales onto and off a trailer and stacking them in the shed, this would be square bales or round bales of hay and square bales of straw. I used a jcb forklift with several different attachments depending on what we was doing squeeze grab for wrapped bales bale spike for straw or round hay bales, corn bucket for loading lorries when we sold the corn and even a grain pusher through harvest.

While working here I spent 6 months working with a fencing contractor before he left to go back home to Cornwall, carrying out task such as stock fencing, post and rail. Barbed wire fences etc. Then I was the main man that carried these jobs after the contractor left.

When I was working on a livestock and arable farm as general farm worker, duties include installing and repairing stock net fencing, barbed wire, using a wrag post knocker , strutting strainers (angle and box struts), termination knots, figure of eight knots, tie backs, I also use a post knocker that sits on a john deer tractor. loading and unloading pigs on or off a lorry, feeding cows and pigs, handling young stock, driving tractors and/or machinery, cleaning out pens, bedding down the cattle and pigs also carrying feed sacks and bales of hay or straw. Corn carting, crop rolling, slurry spreading.
