Currently, I am relief milking whilst at university. I am milking on farms of between 100-400 cows on various systems, often left with sole responsibility when the herdsman is away. This includes milking, rearing of calves, scraping, feeding, treatment of sick cows, management of bulling cows, etc.
Over summer of 2021 I worked on a dairy farm which included milking, block calf rearing and general cow husbandry. I also got the opportunity to get involved in the silage harvest outside of my employment hours. I independently undertook cultivations such as topping and rolling, as well as daily machinery routines (tractors, bobcats, forklifts) and basic machinery maintenance.
Previously to this, I have worked on dairy farms doing jobs of a similar nature, as well as some lambing, suckler beef and pig work between.
