Farming background

Nov 2020- present- I currently work on a 600 spring calving dairy farm in Northamptonshire. Throughout my time here I have been involved in the general care of the cows including milking and treatment of cows. I have also been involved in the feeding and bedding up of the cows during housing in winter as well as starting to get involved in grass management through this summer including grass allocation and feeding out silage in paddocks through grass shortages.

Calving 2021 was very hands on with identification of any calving cows, assisting if needed as well as after care of both cow and calf. I took on the role of calf rearer for 2021 rearing both bfx heifers for replacements and bfx bulls and aax calves for sale. I have continued as youngstock manager rearing 200 replacement heifers through the summer with general care involving treatments, grass management and tracking progress through regular weighing.

2019-2020- I worked for my final two years of uni at a local farm with a flock of 300 sheep and a small herd of 60 beef breeding heifers. I have helped out with general care of the animals throughout as well as with lambing.

I have been around farming and livestock all my life with my family owning a mixed arable and beef (stores) farm in leicestershire.
