Farming background

General Farm Worker (March 2012 December 2016)

I worked on a neighbouring dairy farm part-time throughout my studies at agricultural university. This consisted of milking 160 cows three times a day starting at 5 am, 1:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Work also consisted of calving, general animal husbandry, and a number of tractor operations. This gave me valuable experience of working independently and taking responsibility of daily farm operations.

Plant Health Inspector Scottish Government (June 2015 August 2016)

For the summers of 2015 and 2016 I worked with the Scottish Government as a Plant Health Inspector. This consisted of inspecting potato plants and identifying diseases, variations and rogue varieties.

From April to December 2017 I worked as a crop scout in Kentucky, checking crops for disease and pest problems. During the autumn months I operated a grain cart, carting soybeans and corn.

Most recently, I have been working as an Operations Supervisor, managing organic fertiliser applications and rock dust for enhanced rock weathering with Veolia. I am currently looking to move back to my grass roots, farming.
