I have a wide range of equipment experience from tractors to cultivators. I have performed most field work including drilling, fertilising, cultivating and spraying.
I also have a good knowledge of dairy equipment and Parlour maintenance from my time as a Herdsman where the upkeep of the Parlour was solely my responsibility. I can fix most problems but I'm not afraid to ask for advice if there's something I'm not entirely sure of.
My first job after school was on a mixed beef and sheep farm where I gained a lot fo experience handling animals. And this led me to go into agriculture. I studied at Plumpton college and would work at the college dairy during the holidays and some weekends. After 3 years at Plumpton I had a brief spell in Dorset looking after 5000 lambs. Bringing them on to finishing. I was then given the opportunity to take over as Herdsman on a 250 cow dairy in Kent where I spent 3 years and gained a lot of experience and a lot of respect as a stockman. I was in charge of milking, grazing, feeding to get the best yeild and condition as well as calf rearing and AI including bull selection. I moved back to Sussex to be closer to family and took on a contract roll at middle farm near lewes which was amazing, as while I was milking in the afternoons I would be joined in the Parlour by members of the public with a lot of questions. I would enjoy telling them all about how the machinery and cows worked. After 2 years I moved to the neighbouring farm for stability among other reasons. This is where I gained the most experience on a progressive dairy with a good input from the owner. I was there for 4 years. I wanted to watch my kids grow up so I decided to go backwards a bit and got a job as a farm worker on a busy mixed farm with beef, sheep, cows and arable I learned a lot of different aspects of farming here and briefly managed the arable side. I am now back at the farm I originally started at. I've been here nearly 4 years and the kids have grown up. I'm now looking for a new challenge. Preferably in the dairy sector which is where my expertise are.
