I was a contractor working alongside a close nit team of 8 to meet regular deadlines. I was responsible for the maintenance of my own tractor during all jobs. In the winter I took control of a compost contract on my own for the company. Some other activities I took part in were straw spreading, bail carting & loading, transporting slurry & spreading, filling silage trailers and chopping maize.

Other livestock experience

From a very young age I worked alongside my dad milking cows and assisting with general farm maintenance. I was an assistant herdsman for nearly 4 years, working alongside the head herdsman to look after a herd of 300, which involved calving, foot trimming, AI, general farm work and maintenance. In all of my dairy jobs I aim to keep all bacto scans down and have a low cell count in the parlour.

Farming background

Assistant Herdsperson (August 2020 to present)

Burgess and Son, Theddingworth

Currently I am working on a dairy in Theddingworth, assisting to look after 350 milking cows. These are split into spring and autumn calving blocks and are strip grazed in the summer months, TMR fed in the winter.

I milk twice a day and assist with general farm duties some examples mucking out, bedding up and general tractor duties but looking to do more as I have in my roles in the past.

Relief Milker (April 2020 to August 2020)

Nottinghamshire / Leicestershire

Due to the nature of coronavirus, I then started relief milking for family friends. Taking on general farm duties and helping

where needed on their farm.

Assistant herdsman (December 2019 to April 2020)

Chandler Farms, LE14 4NQ

Here I was a full time assistant herdsman looking after 300 cows. While I was here I milked in a 18/36 Fullwood parlour twice a day. I spent most of my time here foot trimming as there were a lot of lame cows. I was also involved with the AI, treating cows with mastitis and general farm duties. Here I was taken on as self employed for 4 months where I was due to be moved onto the payroll however the drop in milk prices lead to them having to let me go.

Relief Milker (July 2019 to December 2019)

Leicestershire

During my time relief milking I have looked after a herd of 300, often doing both milkings while keeping the parlour to a high standard. Again here I have been involved in maintaining the cows health, treating where necessary.

Agricultural Contractor (July 2018- July 2019)

I.W.Smalleys, Nottingham

Here I was a contractor working alongside a close nit team of 8 to meet regular deadlines. I was responsible for the

maintenance of my own tractor during all jobs. In the winter I took control of a compost contract on my own for the company. Some other activities I took part in were straw spreading, bail carting & loading, transporting slurry & spreading, filling silage trailers and chopping maize.

Herd manager (November 2017 July 2018)

This role was primarily focussed on managing my team and 200 cows being milked by 4 robots. My main duties were AI foot trimming and healthcare treating where possible.

Assistant Herdsman (December 2013 November 2017)

Dorringtons, Bourne

Here I was the assistant herdsman for nearly 4 years, working alongside the head herdsman to look after a herd of 300

cows, which involved calving, foot trimming, AI, general farm work and maintenance. My main role here was milking where I kept the bacto scan between 2 and 8 on a regular basis as well as keeping the somatic cell count between 60 and 100.

Herdsman (June 2010 - November 2013)

P. Mottram & Sons, Lincoln

Here I took on a number of jobs milking, looking after calves, feeding, bedding up and tractor work.
