June 2019/ March 2020
Whilst working at ********farm, I have gained experience in scraping, sorting cows, TB testing, milking, calving, prescribing necessary medicines and administering them, record keeping, heat detection, vaccinating, assisting with vet visits, spotting sick animals and treating accordingly.
During calving, I then took charge of colostrum management, being solely responsible for testing quality of colostrum, bottling up, storing and keeping very high standards of hygiene. I was also responsible for feeding calves the correct amount of colostrum, making sure they were tagged appropriately, navels dipped, recorded in the calving diary correctly, and transporting them to our young-stock unit.
On this unit, I gained a lot of experience in rearing calves - replacement heifers and beef animals. This included weighing calves, sorting the right ration of dry food, feeding milk, weaning, de - horning and castrating, treatment of sick calves, fencing, building pens, bedding up, operating the JCB and general farm work such as repairs, soil testing, checking livestock etc. I have also done some office work monitoring the growth rates of our replacement heifers.
For my first full time job in Agriculture I have gained a lot of experience in a wide field of work and I am now ready to take the next step in my career.
Jan 2019 - Aug 2019
I started relief milking for ** ****to get my foot in the door in Agriculture. I travelled between 4 different farms in Edenbridge and surrounding areas when I was needed, alongside a part time pub job. I gained a lot of experience milking at these farms, including spotting mastitis, spotting lame cows, sick cows, keeping good hygiene in the parlour, making sure cows are properly milked out, pre dipping and post dipping, wiping teats correctly etc.
Whilst doing relief work I also participated in some TB testing, where I was sorting the cows and also doing the recording. I also did some scraping out at these farms when necessary.
Lambing - 2015/2023.
I have lambed at numerous places around east and West Sussex, Somerset, and Wiltshire.
My most recent season I was working alone on the mendip hills with my dogs and lambed 400 over the period of two weeks.
2024 lambing season - I went to Scotland for 6 weeks to do 3 weeks indoor lambing 1500 and 3 weeks outdoor lambing 1000. This was a great experience.
2021-2024 (current)
I have been relief milking at several different farms in this time all around Somerset Dorset and Devon.
I pride myself on high standards of animal welfare and cleanliness. I like to keep a clean parlour.
I am confident spotting illnesses, and treating accordingly. I am happy to take initiative when needed, and pride myself on high standards of animal welfare, with great attention to detail so rarely anything gets overlooked.
I assist with vet visits and TB testing at my current farms.
I also do some relief calf rearing which I really enjoy.
I do not have AI or foot trimming experience but am very keen to learn.
