APPRENTICE FARM WORKER, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. Duties are general day to day care of 45 British Blue x suckler cows and calves, youngstock, bucket calves and fattening cattle. There was a flock of 130 commercial ewes which I did one lambing season with before they were all sold. There is a small herd of pedigree Texels which I look after, shepherding, foot trimming, worming, vaccination etc. I have taken my tractor test and my telescopic 6m test. I drive a Polaris Ranger to carry out shepherding and feeding and use Deutz-Fahr tractor for emptying muck trailers, harrowing, flat rolling, teddering, rowing up and bale carting. I also drive the Merlo telehandler to put bales in for bedding down, scraping out, loading and unloading and with the chopper bucket on for potatos. The farm also has a riding school and livery which I help with. Duties include maintenance of electric fencing and paddocks, harrowing the arena, putting bales round for the liveries and general jobs.

started on a high health pedigree Hereford cattle yard taking the roll as stockman. Jobs including Scraping out, bedding down, checking cattle and keeping them to a high standard of health, preparation for shows and sales, maintenance of sheds and fields, husbandry, carving, transporting and all the other roles of a stockman. The tractors, Telehandlers and attachments such as... John Deere tractors, JCB Telehandlers, straw chopper, bale unwinder. This some of the equipment I used on a daily basis around the farm making sure that I kept the cattle fed and bedded but also keeping the yard clean to a high standard. Having gained so much experience and knowledge from this job I found myself wanting to push on further. Sadly I didnt feel like I could do that at that farm so I finished at the start of June 2020 and now looking to expand my knowledge and experience even more elsewhere.

I started working for a agricultural fencing & groundworks company. Jobs such as livestock fencing, shed bases, concreting and loads more. This job allowed me to drive a wide range of agricultural and plant machinery such as diggers, tracked post knockers, dumpers, rollers, tractors/unimog etc.

I started on a high health pedigree limousine & large commercial cattle yard taking the roll as stockman in East Yorkshire. Jobs including Scraping out, bedding down, checking cattle and keeping them to a high standard of health, preparation for shows and sales, maintenance of sheds and fields, husbandry, carving, transporting. Also looking after a flock of commercial sheep (200 head).

The farm had 1800 acres of arable. In harvest and drilling season my responsibilities after my cattle duties were mainly corn carting and powering harrowing.

The machinery that I was using were JCB forklifts, fent & massy tractors with wide rang of attachments

Due to family & personal reasons i have moved back to Northamptonshire

Farming background

I come from a small farming background in Northamptonshire. We have always had pedigree cattle and sheep, including mine and my brothers flock of Blue Texel sheep. We have shown across the country and have bought and sold at the national breed sales. We decided to disperse the flock back in 2017, when we both started work and college and they helped us to fund buying a car each. Myself and my younger sister have recently started a small flock of pedigree Suffolks. 2023 was our first year on the show circuit I was lucky enough to take male champion reserve overall champion with a homebred ram lamb. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the future.
