Other livestock experience

I have over 10 years experience in working with dairy, beef, pig and sheep stock and have good experience of lambing and calving. My main job roles have been calf rearing & general farm work within dairy. I have reared calves from birth until going for meat or their first calving. I have experience in calving whilst working with the livestock. I currently work as a Calf Rearer and General Farm Hand where I rear calves from birth till finishing or calving. Doing all heifers AI's myself. As well as all of the general activities surrounding dairy.

I have also have experience with outdoor lambing which was a 400+ Swaledale mule flock, as well so indoor lambing over the last few years which were a variety of breeds 700+. I also have year round experience working with sheep drenching, fly strike prevention etc.

I have 2 working border collies 1 retired 1 part trained.

I have also worked with pigs and goats at a previous job.

I joined Young Farmers in 2017, it has given me more experience and knowledge about all aspects of the farming industry. I also enjoy the social aspect of young farmers as it is easier to get along with people who understand and can relate to your situations. Within young farmer we have visited many different farm and seen they way other people run their farms. I also enjoy spending a lot of my spare time outside with my partner and dogs.

Farming background

I currently work on a Dairy/ beef/ arable and arable farm near Faringdon Oxfordshire, in which I am able to work on the dairy completely on my own I have excessive experience with calving as well as rearing stock from birth till they go for meat or have their first calving. It is a block calving dairy, I am able to identify bulling cattle to be AI'ed and inseminate as well as working with bulls.

I have worked with a suckler herd which includes pedigree Salers in which the pedigree Saler calves are kept for use within the dairy herd.

I also have tractor/ machinery experience through out harvest and silage as well as, using various equipment within the farm.

I have previously worked on a public petting farm in Leeds, in which I worked with beef cows, pigs and sheep as well as many other animals such as, goats, llama, alpaca and horses.

I also have experience lambing, I have worked previously on a sheep farm working with over 400 sheep year round including lambing.
