Main responsibilities began as calf rearing and general farm work such as scraping, cleaning beds and applying envirobed to beds during the winter months. The employment of a student to take over calf rearing allowed me to do more of the tractor work including Feeding with a feeder wagon, bedding up with a straw chopper, Mowing, carting silage, topping, rolling, fencing, spreading slurry etc. I was also responsible for light maintenance on the machinery such as greasing, checking oil levels and topping up if low along with basic repairs.

June 2018 October 2018Harvest and Cultivation

Employed during the busy harvest period to help with carting grain and was responsible for filling the combines with diesel using a diesel bowser throughout harvest. Once harvest was over my main responsibilities were cultivating using a Kockerling precision cultivator and ploughing.

Was also heavily involved with cultivation once the harvest was over. This involved using a Kockerling quadro cultivator to cultivate over 500acres ready for drilling and was then responsible for rolling the newly seeded ground with a Cambridge roller.

Main responsibilities included all aspects of yard work, this involved cleaning beds, scraping and ensuring different groups of cattle were in the collecting yard ready to be milked. Other duties included slurry application, fencing, topping and feeding livestock using a Manitou. During the summer months I was responsible for mowing, raking, carting silage and wrapping bales. I was involved in a number of different activities with livestock as I would assist in TB testing, drenching and administering boluses to cattle, where my main responsibility was operating the crush. I was also responsible for administering medicines if livestock were in poor health this would range from subcutaneous injections of metacam or intramuscular injections of Tylan etc. I also assisted the herdsman with the milking when it was required.

Seasonal work which began as a placement and was then continued over future summers. Employed as part of the harvest team. Main duties involved carting grain during the busy harvest period. Other duties included carting straw bales, fencing, cattle work (bedding up, moving cattle) and a small amount of cultivation work.
