I use a John Deere Tractor and JCB loader on a daily basis. Other equipment used regularly - quad bike, hydraulic stock trailer, muck trailer and hydraulic auger feed hopper filler.

Other livestock experience

I previously worked on an outdoor pig farm looking after 150 sows. I was involved in all aspects of breeding (natural service) and farrowing and managed the finisher pigs that were housed in tents. I ensured all pigs received the correct feed according to their age and requirements, I vaccinated and medicated the pigs when required according to protocol and ensured all records were kept up to date. I worked alongside a dedicated pig vet to ensure high quality care and welfare standards were adhered to. I looked after longhorn cattle in the winter months when they were housed in sheds this included checking for signs of illness, bedding up and feeding. Initially I was employed to look after 1200 sheep with the head shepherd which included lambing/night lambing. I also looked after over 100 rare breed chickens ensuring high standards of care was provided to all the animals.

I currently work on a 1000 sow unit running the service section carrying out weekly AI.

Farming background

2006 - 2013 NVQ assessor - I managed a caseload of 40 to 50 candidates who were undertaking NVQ qualifications in health and social care. I gave support, tuition and advice where required for the candidate to achieve their qualification this also included support with literacy and numeracy skills. 2000 - 2006 Prison Officer - I carried out landing work for the first two years of my post as a prison officer this included communicating with inmates, ensuring they followed the rules and regulations of the prison. I then went on to work in reception where I received prisoners from court this involved interviewing new arrivals, drug searches, assessing the mental state of each individual and locating them in the correct environment to maintain their safety and the safety of others. Record keeping and good documentation skills were an important part of this job role.
