Farming background

Experienced stockman with over 13 years working across dairy, beef and sheep systems in the UK and internationally, including New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Background includes a mix of grass-based and housed systems, ranging from small-scale farms through to larger operations. Im a fully motivated individual with ambitions of owning my own farm at one point in the future.

Im currently employed as a consultant but looking to return back to on farm work. This role has involved a lot of subsidy based work as well as business planning, agronomy work and i have recently completed my FACTS course in order to give fertiliser advice.

My farming experience has included working on dairy herds from 100 cows up to 1,000+, suckler and beef finishing units, and several lambings. I have a strong practical focus on day-to-day livestock care, including milking, calving, lambing, calf rearing and general herd and flock management. I enjoy working on grass based systems and enjoy getting the most out of grazed grass as well as outdoor wintering systems.

I have a lot of experience in youngstock systems and calf rearing, working with large numbers of calves, with responsibility for feeding, health monitoring and weaning. I also had my own calf rearing business for 2 years which peaked at 50 calves which saw me undertake working with the likes of ScotEID, liaising with vets and suppliers and overall management of a small herd.

I also have 5 years worth of arable experience with 4 of those spent on a ranch sowing 12,000 acres of crop per year.

I have experience managing teams and individuals.

Im looking to take the next step into some form of management or a role with more responsibility.
