Farming background

I have been passionate about farming from a young age and now I am in a position to realise my life long career ambition. Having previously worked on a sheep and hay farm producing 12,000 traditional bales a year, 2016 saw me working on a 4000 acre arable farm as part of a large team, working an average of 80-100 hours per week.

Apart from harvesting, cultivation, drilling, equipment maintenance and general farm duties, I was also tasked with many lone working operations. 2017 has seen me once again in a position of responsibility, in particular taking charge of drilling 350 acres of OSR and being responsible for ploughing in excess of 500 acres. As well as the usual harvest tasks I am still keen to secure a permanent employment position. 2018 has seen me on a 2500 acre arable contracting business, gaining further experience and responsibility including client liaison.

March 2019 has seen me posted on a 6000 acre arable farm, undertaking all aspects of a large arable farm so furthering my knowledge and experience. I am due to return to this farm Spring 2020, but would rather secure a permanent post, or a harvest post with the potential of becoming permanent.

October 2019 Present.

I was due to return to the farm early 2020, if I hadnt secured a permanent position on another farm. Due to the poor Autumn drilling of 2019 and Brexit, the farm reneged on the agreement. I have spent the time actively searching for a position on a farm, but COVID, Brexit and weather has meant very little opportunity. I have been doing maintenance work at my local church, and spent the summer hay making & other farm work as required on a nearby farm, along with keeping up to date with the latest farming practice, spraying regulations, and environmental issues.

July 2021 working on an arable farm completing all arable duties inc heavy cultivations, fabrication and crop spraying.

March 2022 to date

Crop Sprayer Driver / Arable Operative

Sole crop sprayer driver, working closely with agronomist to ensure best yield outcomes.

Completion of usual operations inc. Telehandler (including loading grain lorries; completing passports), cultivations, drilling, combining cereals, granular and liquid fertilizer application.

Field operations using Massey Fergusson and Topcon RTK GPS.

Workshop operations inc. MIG welding and fabrication, tractor servicing, general troubleshooting, and repair. I was also tasked with installing fail-safe air brakes to a grain trailer with hydraulic only braking.
