Able to conduct all combinable crop operations with utmost attention to detail and timeliness. Very capable of setting-up, calibrating and operating modern machinery such as wheeled tractors, crawlers, excavators, combine harvesters, sprayers, cultivators and drills. I am extremely competent with all leading guidance systems, precision farming including CTF, variable-rate applications. Versatile workshop skills in diesel engine repair, machinery refurbishment, repair and fabrication with MIG and MMA/Stick welding. I also have a good working knowledge of Gatekeeper primarily for record keeping and legislatory compliance but also additional precision farming modules.
Various periods of seasonal work at lambing and calving time entailing many aspects of animal husbandry with sheep and beef cattle. Also some experience of foxhound husbandry where kennels were on-site. In my spare time I reared and marketed 40 Christmas turkeys a few years ago, which proved lucrative.
While I have a calm approach to a busy working life, underneath I possess a fiercely competitive edge and am able to develop new skills quickly and effectively to become proficient in a given craft.
I proudly have a young family who are interested in farming and very understanding of the changeable seasonal workload.
Away from work I love spending time with my family, fieldsports during the winter; music festivals during early-summer; and have competed internationally very successfully at dinghy racing.
I have had a passion for farming since an early age. My family were very inventive agricultural engineers, running their own successful business. I've worked in farming since my early teens gaining valuable hands-on experience with (and an understanding of) a variety of farm businesses.
I've previously managed 600 hectares of arable cropping on a day-to-day basis in a role as Working Arable Manager.
I'm currently occupied as the Assistant Farm Manager of a larger scale contract farming operation which involves the supervision of staff members and contractors, with accountability for their wellbeing in addition to carrying out hands-on work during key operations.
