I use a loader tractor and diet feeder box to feed the sheep and cow shed with pit silage. I also use the loader tractor to handle baled hay and silage to feed outdoor sheep.

I carry out a lot of topping through the summer months on the field and hill ground.

I also help my friend who is a local baling contractor through the busy summer period, mainly tedding and raking grass for hay or silage.

Other livestock experience

I am currently working as a shepherd on a hill farm within the Scottish Borders, where I have sole responsibility for 1200 hill Cheviots. I also work with the 70 cow herd of Aberdeen Angus carrying out all associated tasks. I am experienced in a wide range of livestock related tasks with both cattle and sheep, through from birth to sale, including checking, vaccinating, tagging dosing etc. Although sheep are my main focus, I am also interested in all other aspects of farming and have a keen interest in the management side of businesses.

I also have a good team of working dogs which I have trained myself.

I am 32 years old and have been in my current position for 9 years.

I hold my Level 1, 2 and 3 qualification in Agriculture and am currently studying towards a degree in business management within my spare time. I have good stockmanship skills and always maintain high welfare standards when working with livestock. I am keen, enthusiastic and self motivated. I enjoy working towards targets and always strive to get the best results from the livestock I am working with and am fully adaptable to changes that need to be made to ensure the best results are achieved.
