Farming background

I am an experienced and hardworking farm worker with a background in dairy farming, livestock husbandry, fencing, welding, health and safety and physically demanding outdoor work. My agricultural experience includes working with a 550-head Jersey dairy herd, where I was responsible for a wide range of daily livestock duties including animal health monitoring, welfare checks, cattle handling, feeding, calf rearing, medication administration and assisting with calving. I regularly moved cattle through races and handling systems, ear tagged calves, collected and fed colostrum, cleaned and disinfected calf housing, bedded cubicles, cleaned water troughs and maintained high standards of farm hygiene and biosecurity. I also assisted vets and professional foot trimmers during herd health procedures, helped load livestock for transport and assisted with the collection and disposal of deceased animals in accordance with farm procedures.

In addition to livestock work, I operated a JCB tractor for scraping and removing dairy cow waste, pushing silage to feeding areas and carrying out general farm duties around the yard and fields. I also operated quad bikes and worked safely with a range of farm machinery and equipment. Outside of farming, I gained valuable practical experience working for a fencing contractor, where I installed fencing and gates, dug post holes, set posts in concrete, constructed feather-edge board fencing using nail guns, carried out MIG and TIG welding, fabricated and repaired gates and completed painting and maintenance work. Throughout my career I have developed a strong work ethic, practical problem-solving skills and a commitment to health and safety, animal welfare and high standards of workmanship. After spending several years raising my family and working in care roles, I am now seeking to return to agriculture on a long-term basis, with the goal of developing my skills further and progressing into a farm management position.
