This position initially was for the 2020 harvest, after we had finished the autumn sowing, my employer and I mutually agreed that the position became permanent. My main roles are completing the stock duties and machinery maintenance during the winter months. In the spring I apply fertilizer to the arable and grassland and then come harvest time I mainly cart corn and relief combine operations, driving a New Holland CX8040. I also relief spray using a trailed 24m Hardi sprayer. I complete all cultivating work using min till with the occasional field being ploughed. I became the main combine and drill operator after a member of the family who ran the farm sadly died back in July 2022.
W******* Stud Ltd November 2018 July 2020
I was employed as Assistant Farm Manager where I assisted the Estate Manager in the general running on the farm side of business. I was also responsible for maintaining the machinery which I did myself or during the busy periods arrange for our mobile mechanic and advised the Finance Director when any machinery is due for replacement, to do this I liaised with various agricultural dealers and obtained quotes that also include servicing deals which were then discussed with my employer who then makes the final decision. I was also responsible for one member of staff giving him jobs to do for the week ahead and training him in tasks when required to do so. My other tasks were spraying, fertilizer application, ploughing the game crop cover ground, making hay for the horses and general estate maintenance. The estate had just over 200 acres of arable ground that was farmed for us by a local contractor. I had a good relationship with all the companys employees and with my employer.
Self Employed, June 2018 November 2018
I worked for C****** H*** Farms where I was involved with cultivating the maize and spring cropping ground and de-stoning the potato beds ready for planting. I was involved on the potato grader line where I was responsible for backing the loaded trailers to the hopper and tipping so as not to overload the grader. I also have had training on using GPS while cultivating but due to policy change on the estate it was a basic grade system.

In this position I was managing a biomass boiler on a chicken broiler farm. My primary duties are to manage the day to day running of the boiler, checking all moving parts are working correctly and not fouled by anything, checking the fuel delivery conveyor belts were running true and weekly greasing all bearings. I was also in charge of two wood chip driers which provided fuel for 4 of our sister farms. I was also involved with chicken husbandry in 2 out of 10 sheds, each shed holding approximately 37,000 birds. This involves removing any deceased bird and culling runts or deformed chicken, checking both the drinker and feeder lines making sure they're running correctly and set to the correct height and finally bedding the shed with bales of shavings. This position ended due to a mutual decision between myself and my employer, the main reasons were, poor communication between myself and my colleagues who were Polish so important information wasnt passed on to me and inadequate training on chicken husbandry.
H***** Farms Ltd, March 2007 March 2017
I was employed here as a tractor driver/stock person. My responsibilities with this position were grassland maintenance which involved chain harrowing, rolling and fertilizing, hedge cutting, repairing fences and then corn carting, relief combine driving during the harvest and then cultivating using a New Holland T7.270 with a 4.5mtr sub-lift cultivator ahead of the drill and relief drill operator using a 4mtr Verstad Rapide drill. I also ploughed and cultivated with a power harrow ready for the maize crop to be planted. Throughout the winter months I was involved with helping to look after the beef animals, checking their health and condition, administering medicines when required, feeding and bedding and then I helped with routine building and machinery maintenance making sure the machines were ready for the following harvest season. I got on well with my fellow co-worker and employer and had the opportunity to give input and opinions on new machinery for the farm. I regretfully left this position due to job security worries as some of the farm has been marked for housing.
