Farming background

Various jobs in welding and fabrication. Started weld aged 13 in school. Had a natural ability for working with steel. Left school and went into engineering at college for a year then joined the merchant navy as an engineer. Left after 2 years traveling the world because of family situation. Worked as a labour for construction companies on the island till I started at the Arnish fabrication yard in Stornoway. Due to the nature of the trade and various companies taking over the yard payoffs were regular and I would go back and forth from the smaller fab shops to Arnish when it would reopen. I worked my way up the ranks and became the welding charge hand of a squad of 40 welders including 25 apprentices. And also teach a 10 week welding night class twice a year. But now I feel is the right time to challenge myself with a new career. And farming is something that has always interested me from a young age. I dont have a great deal of experience with large farm equipment but I learn fast and work well with people and animals. My main hobby is shooting. Ive been the team leader for a local goose cull program and also have represented Scotland in clay shooting.
