Other equipment experience

I have had limited Equipment experience, whilst on work placements i've used telehandler's to get bales of silage for feeding, to fill muck spreaders, and to fill trailers. I have had experience driving tractors at college but this was very limited, whilst on one of my placements, I helped to fill the slurry tank and to then spread the slurry but this was done with someone helping me in the cab. at my most recent place of work i used the telehandler if and when required to carry out tasks such as pushing up food.

Other livestock experience

• I grew up on a small holding with highland cattle and my dad works for one of the farms in the local area where dairy was once the primary focus. While the dairy operation was phased out when I was very young, the farm continued to work with dairy bull calves for finishing for several years after. This allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience whilst growing up as I was able to work with and around dairy calves, handling and monitoring their overall health.

I was given the opportunity to assist with lambing, calving and general farmwork up in Orkney, during my time up there I had to monitor the pregnant ewes and the cows/heifers and assist them during birth if there were any complications. I also carried out general tasks round the farm including feeding the cattle and the sheep, I also helped with building lambing pens and jagging some of the ewes.

spent two weeks away in Northern Ireland assisting a family farm with laming duties, my roles consisted of bedding, feeding and watering ewes, tube feeding lambs, assisting ewes with any complicated births, checking the welfare of both ewes and lambs and moving lambs and ewes out to the fields once the lambs were strong enough.

At my most recent place of work i was the dairy manager at a family dairy farm in Perthshire. i was responsible for the twice daily milking of 150 cows through a 24/48 DeLeval herringbone parlour. i managed the overall health and wellbeing of the herd and carried out general stock work such as footbathing, and vaccinating.

Farming background

I am a highly motivated individual with a strong background in agriculture; I am currently working on a

dairy farm just outside of Perth and completed my HND in Agriculture in 2025. Having grown up with a

farming background I have been exposed to many different aspects of the industry, this hands-on

experience combined with my academic studies, has given me a solid foundation in both practical and

theoretical aspects of the industry. I am hard working, adaptable, and always eager to take on new

challenges. Whether working independently or as part of a team, I bring a positive, reliable, and

proactive attitude. My passion for agriculture continues to drive me to develop my skills and contribute

meaningfully wherever I work.

Lambing & calving March 2024 April 2024

Millhouse farm, Sanday, Orkney

• I was given the opportunity to assist with lambing, calving and general farmwork up in Orkney,

during my time up there I had to monitor the pregnant ewes and the cows/heifers and assist

them during birth if there were any complications. I also carried out general tasks round the

farm including feeding the cattle and the sheep, I also helped with building lambing pens and

jagging some of the ewes. When I wasnt working with the livestock, I would be carrying out

general tractor work such as spreading slurry.

• Whilst on this work experience, I felt I developed my ability to stay calm under pressure and

respond quickly in unexpected situations, along with developing my time management as I

quite often had to manage a busy schedule.

Lambing. March 17th April 1st, 2025

Butler family farm, Ballyvoy, Northern Ireland

roles consisted of bedding, feeding and watering ewes, tube feeding lambs, assisting ewes

with any complicated births, checking the welfare of both ewes and lambs and moving lambs

• From this experience I felt I developed my problem solving and decision making as I was

often placed in positions in which quick decision making was required especially when there

was birthing complications with the ewe or with the care of newborn lambs.

• I also further developed my animal handling and restraint skills, ensuring safe management of

the ewes and lambs.

• I was also required to collaborate with the lambing team to manage a busy lambing season,

demonstrating strong teamwork and time management skills.
