Farming background

2023 - 2025

Farmhand,  (Sisland)

Whilst working on Poplar farm, I helped manage and run the care for 300 Cattle and up to 2,000 pigs as well as arable work. I have also had some responsibility looking after the game birds on the farm. This role is largely revolved around teleporter and tractor work. The daily responsibilities including the care of maintenance of all livestock such as feeding, watering, bedding down, mucking out, sorting, and loading livestock. Other maintenance responsibilities on the farm included the fields such as pulling ragwort and blackgrass, muck carting and spreading, and a small amount of ploughing. There were also times where helped with building repairs and concreting. The farm holds shoot days where I am a member of the beating team as well bird collecting. During Harvest season I have the additional responsibilities of bailing and carting around 5,000 rapeseed, wheat, and barley bales. I also aided in silage making and tedding. When dealing with the cattle I helped during calving season maintaining the housing units for cows and calves, helped with calving, and additional feeding of calves when needed.

2019 - PRESENT

Shepherd,  (Flordon)

I have been brought in to work and consult on this farm alongside The Harveys to help run just around 140 ewes and yearly lambs. My responsibilities include daily care, delivering lambs when needed, and feeding orphan lambs. There are also instances where orphan lambs need intensive care, and I will manage them at home. My role during this time also includes setting up the lambing pens and yards, as well as ringing and castrating. In the spring and summer months I assist with yearly sheering duties, crutching out and also rolling and packing fleece. I also aid in the movement of the sheep between the farm and fields as well as taking livestock to market.

2012 - PRESENT

Shepherd,  (Saxlingham Nethergate)

I have worked on this farm alongside my family working up to 600 sheep at its biggest. The responsibilities involve all aspects of care from field and fencing maintenance, transportation, feeding, lambing, sheering, and sorting. It was on this farm where I was taught how to lamb and how to safely and carefully deal with any complications that may arise and have been lambing professionally for 10 years. I have now taken a larger role in the selection of breeding ewes, splitting ewes and lambs, and selecting and transporting sheep for market.
