Responsible for all aspects of managing a calf rearing unit turning round over 900 calves a year, taking calves from two weeks old through weaning to sell as stores.

From initial arrival batches of 140 calves with 400 animals on farm at any one time. From feeding and bedding up, through creating and managing the vaccination program, vet routine, health plan, tracking kpi's and managing all aspects of recording and reporting all movement and medical information.

April 2022 - April 2023 (Short term contract) Assistant Herdsman

Working with a heard 70 pedigree limousin, 120 blue X limousin commercial herd and 700 head of sheep consisting of mainly mules. As well as the day to day work such of feeding, treating sick or lame animals, bedding down and calving/lambing. We also have responsibility for preparing cattle for shows and sales around the north of England, maintaining perimeter fencing around the park and any fields where livestock graze and managing parkland alongside the forestry and gardening teams.

Worked with a 650 heifer milking herd being milked 3 times a day. Duties included milking at least once a day whilst also taking responsibility for diagnosing and carrying out any necessary treatments, bedding down of the young stock, dry yards and the milking herd, calving new calf cows, general tidying of the yard and general maintenance of farm machinery. I also fed cows using 2 Shelbourne Powermix feed trailers to convey food directly into the trough.
