At college I did a lot of stock fencing. I also completed my telehandler and ATV tickets although these have now expired. I have had a go at ploughing, power harrowing, and baling, all supervised and not frequently used skills. Towards the end of college I was allowed to have a go ploughing unsupervised. Through my work experience I have done electric fencing, telehandler work, topping, hay turning and used a loader tractor and have been allowed to drive the tractor on the road. My current job involves fencing, topping, hay turning and lambing and general yard work like mucking out and a little maintenance work.
I have milked cows at college and a previous job but not regularly and had a part time job rearing dairy calves. During college lambing placements I worked on a sheep dairy, outdoor and indoor lambing systems, one with beef cattle also on site. My regular college placement was on a beef and sheep farm with beef shorthorns and Dorset Downs. At college I did one season showing dairy cattle and had a go at showing beef cattle at my work experience. My college course did include some pig work but this was very limited. I have done 5 years lambing at my current job and other tasks associated with sheep, i.e. shearing, worming foot trimming etc. We have a small number of pigs who I have mucked out and moved, plus a dozen beef cattle.

Did a two year college course at Brinsbury, part of Chichester College. This included units on pigs, sheep, beef and dairy production, livestock husbandry, estate skills, machinery operations and maintenance and arable crops. On the college farm there was an extensive dairy unit and about 250 ewes which students had to help lamb. We also had to do lambing experience which I spent on a sheep dairy and other indoor and outdoor systems. I regularly helped on a small beef and sheep farm for almost 2 years. I had a temporary job rearing dairy calves. I have been at my current job since lambing 2019, regularly working 2 days a week. I also did some temporary work for an Estate farm in the run up to lambing and a local dairy before and during calving.
