We are looking for an experienced stockperson for our dedicated youngstock unit in West Dorset.

The job will involve feeding, scraping, bedding with a tractor, weighing, dehorning, foot bathing and vaccinatng post-weaned calves.  Also collecting calves from the dairies, spotting and treating sick animals and the necessary record keeping for medicine, movements and weights, etc.  At certain times of the year topping, rolling and silage carting would be additional duties.

You wil need to be a competent tractor driving stockman, enjoy rearing cattle and have experience in treating sick animals.  The job involves a degree of lone working, so you wuld need to be self motivated and organised but also work as part of the wider on farm team.  The ideal candidate would be computer literate and have an ATV or cattle trailer certificate, although training will be given for the right person.

The role operates on a rota system, working 6 days on/4days off, with an average of 50 hours per week, which provides a good work life balance.  The job comes with a rent-free cottage close to the farm, a competitive salary and pension scheme.
