Job for Experienced Shepherd required for 500 Organic NZ Ewes near <=>Doncaster<=>

Farm TypeSheep
Description

Experienced shepherd required for our farm.  We are seeking a fully experienced and ambitious shepherd to take full responsibility for the day to day running of our extensive organic sheep enterprise.

The enterprise consists of a breeding flock of around 500 pure New Zealand Romney ewes lambing out doors in late April, producing finished lambs and flock replacements.

In addition to the breeding flock the estate finishes a large number of store lambs annually for dedicated supermarket contracts.  Most of the lambs are finished from November onwards with the aim of all lambs being sold before lambing starts.

The successful applicant will be fully involved in all aspects of running the enterprise and will be encouraged to take ownership of the role, which could suit either an experienced head shepherd or a good assistant shepherd looking to take a step up towards full flock management.

This is very much a hands-on position and a strong work ethic coupled with enthusiasm and the ability to work un-supervised to high standards is vital.  Full support will be forthcoming from the estate management team and external advisors and there will be no barriers to the continued personal development of the appointed shepherd.

The enterprise is extremely well resourced with up to date handling equipment and machinery to help the shepherd work efficiently, and an estate vehicle and suitable accommodation, based on the estate will form part of an attractive remuneration package.

All applications will be treated with complete confidentiality and referees will only be contacted prior to an offer being made.  A full job description will be forwarded to short listed applicants.
