We are looking for an experienced stockman for our dedicated youngstock unit in West Dorset. The job would involve feeding, scraping and bedding with a tractor, weighing, dehorning, footbathing and vaccinating post-weaned cattle. Collecting calves from the dairies, spotting and treating sick animals, calling the vet when necessary and completing the relevant records for medicine, movements and weights etc. At certain times of the year topping, rolling and silage carting would be additional duties.

You wll need to be a competent tractor driving stocman and enjoy rearing cattle, be able to spot sick aimals and have experience treating them. The job involves a degree of lone working so you would need to be self-motivated and organised but also work as part of the wider farm team. The ideal candidate would be computer literate and have a ATV or cattle trailer certificate, although training will available for the right person.

The role operates on a rota system, 6 days on/4 days off and this works out at an average of 47 hours per week which provides a good work-life balance. The job comes with a rent-free cottage close to the farm, a competetive salary and pension scheme.
