Title

General Farm Work On Diverse Estate. Job in <-->Suffolk<-->

Farm TypeArable, Sheep, Other
Description

This is an unusual position in a family run 750 acre Estate, the main activity of which, apart from a 500 acre farm, is as an Historic House & Garden open to the public, holding frequent (and some big) Events.  This is a permanent position for the right person as a versatile Estate worker who is strong and healthy, sensitive to animals with good sheep skills and able to drive a range of heavy vehicles.  Also being an experienced fencer with good  DIY skills for estate maintenance and involving  setting up and striking a variety of Events.

The 500 acre arable farm is farmed organically in partnership with a contract farmer, with 100 acres of woodland, but the Estate contributes management of stewardship elements, woodlands, hedge cutting and mowing margins.  On the Hall’s separate 120 acres we run 100 rare breed sheep hoping to increase that to a flock of about 500 commercial sheep using the leys of the farm, a few cattle, pigs, hens and horses.  We make hay and bale straw from the farm.   However the main activity is keeping the grounds, as distinct from the Gardens, suitable for public access and well maintained and as an Events venue involving a certain amount of setting up and striking.  We employ about 15 regular personnel spread across House, Garden, Estate Office and Maintenance.  The work is very varied and the hours reflect the nature of the work which means regular weekend and late night working when Events demand it.  Able to fit into a small dedicated team which punches above its weight while at the same time able to work well on your own.
