Farming background

I have held various management positions over my career and enjoy looking for a challenge. I grew up on a mixed dairy, pig, and house stud farm with a large forestry section growing pine to supply the farm sawmill. I worked on the family farm until 1998 when I left to learn new farming practices in the UK where I worked on farms growing lettuce and herbs , I believe my ability to work with and manage people helped me into positions of responsibility where i was responsible for all lettuce plantings that included land prep and bed forming and tasking. communicating with the agronomist on a weekly basis regarding spraying and irrigation requirements. scheduling irrigation with low pressure boom and reel irrigators .managing a team of 16 people. I have managed dairy farms milking 500 to 2000 cows in milk including all related crops. I took on a position of farm operations manager in Zambia working for a large venture capitalist company where we developed 3500 ha of virgin bush to arable land under center pivot irrigation growing maize, soya and winter wheat. I established the beginnings of a beef enterprise with 2000 breeding cows and the construction of a feedlot that would eventually handle 5000 head at any given time , to supply the companies butcheries. Currently I own and manage a timber harvesting operation supplying local sawmills with around 2000 cubes of structural timber per month.
