Basic tractor driving and loading experience. Driven loadall but only with bucket. Introduction to skid steer. Keen to develop machinery skills/experience to be able to do fieldwork. ATV and sheep trailer experience when lambing outdoors.

Other livestock experience

Almost 2 years experience with livestock and with a wide range of animals. Main strengths are with animal husbandry, health and welfare with a particular interest in colostrum management. I am used to administering medicines and the associated record keeping, managing flock registers and dealing with dead stock. Most experience is with sheep but 6 months doing part-time milking shifts and milk recording has increased my knowledge and skills in Dairy. 3 seasons of lambing - mules and rare breeds, pedigree Texel & Beltex, Swaledales & Blue Leicesters. Recent lambing job also had Angus beef suckler herd and I spent some time helping when necessary. I keep my own chickens at home.

Farming background

18 months full-time on non-productive open farm responsible for day to day care of wide range of animals large and small, including 500 rare breed sheep. Responsible for administering medicines and managing records/paperwork. 6 months part-time milking, usually on own in parlour but also help scraping, bedding, feeding and seeing to calves. Two recent lambing contracts - Pedigree Texel indoor, Upland Swaledale outdoor. Also do milk recording for NMR on two local dairy farms.
