Farming background

2012– General Farm Labourer My agricultural career began long before I left school from working on a local dairy farm. During my time at this job my talents and skills were made apparent as when separated Massey Ferguson 35X was delivered to the farm in boxes I built back together over 3 days during holidays. My key roles in this job consisted of • Servicing tractors regularly • Fabricated feed barriers and rump rails from scratch in a workshop environment • Fabricated silage sides and mud guards for a Kane Classic 14tonne silage trailer. • During harvest season I carted silage with tractor and trailer, driving a forage harvester for whole crop and spent long hours spreading slurry and muck. This job taught me from a very young age how to work as a strong team member efficiently and also to regularly work unsupervised on tasks specified by the farm owner. 2014 –Cow Care Systems (agricultural fabricator and fitter) I went into my family business Cow Care Systems. Working as an agricultural fitter on site and fitting livestock housing systems all over mainland UK. As well as this I played a key role in the workshop preparing orders and welding and fabricating. This job required me to work long hours, day and night and travelling away from home for long periods of times alongside a team of electricians and other fitters. This experience has improved my teamwork skills and provided me with the confidence to overcome any conflict that may arise while working in a team. It has also provided me with comprehensive organisational skills and required me use my communication skills to build positive relationships with clients 2014 – fabricating from scratch portal frame sheds as well as shuttering concrete tanks. Alongside all the farms day-to-day running’s including feeding, bedding, slurry and silage. As well as everyday maintenance for tractors and machinery. Off season times I worked causal labour to a number of farmers and mechanics in the area, these duties consisted of • Competently and independently rebuilding engines and gearboxes for cars, pickups, vans as well as agricultural machinery. • Day-to-day servicing and MOTs. 2015-1017 Gill group IE – I started as a Machinery/Plant operator, however, due to constant breakdowns my job was promptly updated to a diesel fitter in an industrial quarry and I was on call between the North and South of Ireland and Mainland UK for mechanicing between roadwork’s and utilities. • Changing tracks on D8 and D9 CAT dozers • Rebuilding final drives on a vast range of bulldozers and diggers • Changed engines in Hitachi and Komatsu Diggers 13T – 50T • Complete overhaul of the undercarriage of three major Hitachi diggers • Changing dipper arms on insurance write off diggers • Replacing bushings, pins and shins in hydraulic quick hitches and jibs • Replacing slu rings • Both onsite and in a workshop environment. This experience has gained me proficient skills in multitasking and coping with stress 2017 (Live stock Manager) Stud farm Contractors (Mechanic/fitter) A&B contractors. Live stock Manager • Bedding, feeding TB testing. • Took a managerial role in stock control of minerals, straw and loose erne bread and fruit waste and whole crop maize. • Caring for the wellbeing for 3600 cattle administering medications and in close contact with Vets. Stud Farm Contactors – head mechanic/ fitter • Working on a range of different tractors inc Agco (Fednt, Massey), JCB (handlers and Fastrac) Hyundai 14T Kubota 3T-6T • Rebuilt Krone front and back mowers and a Massey baler • General maintenance of company vehicles • During harvest, delivering loads of straw and hay, turning, baling, mowing, tedding, rowing, muck spreading and driving diggers • I am confident in general groundwork, for example, fencing, grading, ditching, bush clearing/topping and hedge trimming.
