Farming background

Grew up on a farm where I hand rear calves. For 3 years have done a lambing.

LAMBING ASSISTANT March – April 2017, 2018 & 2019 This job meant I was overseeing the care for sheep and lambs in the shed. During the day I was feeding, lambing ewes and taking ewes and lambs out to the field using a quadbike and trailer. This job left me in charge of the shed during my night shift and on call during the evenings. I worked efficiently by myself and used my initiative in the less active times by carrying out tasks that had not been addressed.  I really enjoyed this hands-on experience, and I felt a great sense of achievement when the last ewe gave birth.

Hobbies

Young farmers

I am currently involved in 2 young farmers groups and for the past 5 years been competing in events including sports, arts and crafts, baking and charity concerts. At the moment, I am treasurer and the handicraft convener leading the project for the display at the Royal Highland Show. Being in this club with like minded people has given me the opportunity to try new skills and has helped me to develop my confidence as well as being a lot of fun!   REARING CALVES AND PIGS At home on the farm, I enjoy looking after piglets and bucket fed calves. I have done this for over 5 years and it gives me a great sense of independence and achievement to watch them grow into healthy adults.
