Other livestock experience

Did a few farming moduels at college about different breeds of cattle/sheep, grazing and livestock handling. Gained lots of experience during a traineeship, I worked on a farm with 100 head herd of full pedigree Beef Shorthorns. I also worked closely with Highland Cattle and a flock of 650 Hebridean and Charolais sheep. My duties included checking the livestock daily, movements and all calving and lambing duties. I also worked alongside vets, so I witnessed them treat the livestock. Therefor I got a good understanding of what was wrong with the patient and what the treatment is. I have a good understanding of the medical records, how this should be done and reasons why the records should be kept. I also know of the rules and legislations of livestock movements and all the record keeping. Also have milking experience. Milked a small herd of dairy shorthorns, twice a day.

Farming background

During college some of the moduels included farm management, livestock handling and conservation grazing. After college I worked on a poultry farm that had 4000 ducks. This mainly included bedding up and egg collecting, looking out and indicating ill or lame looking birds. I am currently on a placement as a grazing and farming trainee. Since been here I have gained a lot of experience with livestock handling (cattle and sheep), assisted with calving and worked independantly with lambing. I also know about illnesses and medication for the livestock and how to safely and correctly treat. Most recently worked on a dairy farm where I milked a small herd of 30 dairy shorthorns twice a day.
