Farming background

Worked on a sheep farm for 4 years and on a cereals and vegetable farm for 1 year in UK and New Zealand.

Lambing sheep, penning new lambs and ewes up into bonding pens, ringing lambs, injecting ewes and lambs, tagging lambs and ewes, mucking pens out, shepherding sheep, feeding sheep and hungry lambs. Cultivations – X-pressing, power harrowing, rolling, cultipressing. Carting oil seed rape, corn. Topping. Muck spreading. Driving case tractors. Working on my own and thinking open minded about tasks, farming and cultivating 1500 acres. Cultivations – grubbing, disking, maxi tilling.  Towing arctic trailers whilst driving next to the potato harvester.  Corn carting. Driving 8 wheeled lorrys in the field next to the combine whilst combining grass.  Onion lifting.  Carting onions.   Carting carrots.  Mulching.  Mowing. General shepherding duties included worming, weaning lambs, weighing, selling.   Assisted during the shearing season.  Attended at market. In sole charge of the flock during the Shepherd’s holidays checking condition of the sheep, feed and water across 2500 acres.   In addition I undertook general estate maintenance and laboured during a house refurbishment.
