Farming background

I was born on an Exmoor Hill Farm my Father was a sheep and beef farmer, breeding Exmoor Horn, Texel and Closewool Sheep and Devon Cattle. I spent my childhood years working on the farm learning from my Father, upon leaving school I became self-employed, working on large sheep and beef farms, lambing in excess of 2000 ewes and calving over 100 cows. I gained a lot of practical knowledge of what works and what doesn’t with livestock, alongside this I did contract shearing all over the country, most months of the year. The last twenty years I have been Farm Manager on an Exmoor Hill Farm, managing livestock and land, doing all aspects of farm repairs such as hedge laying and fencing. As the farm is adjacent to the common, we had common rights. I have experience of filling out single farm payment forms and HLS, registering with BCMS and sheep tagging and movement documents.  Ross On Wye, Herefordshire, HR9 6JN – Farm Manager – December 2015 – Current  Farm, Withypool - Farm Manager - 1993 – December 2015 Self Employed Farm Worker/Shearer - 1984 - 1993

Hobbies

I am very interested in any countryside activities, I live on the farm I currently work on and they have frequent shoots which I assist with.
