Farming background | Prior to beginning my degree I was from a non-farming background but had obtained basic livestock experience and knowledge through my teenage years. I took every opportunity to learn as much as I could from anybody willing to teach me and was asked by the Head Shepherd at university to assist him with lambing. Following this I was offered a placement on a local farm where I completed 500 hours work experience on a commercial and pedigree Charolais flock during lambing, weaning, finishing and taking to market. After completing that placement I was asked to work on a paid basis during lambing seasons before being offered the role as Head Shepherd at Hartpury College. |
