Farming background

Started farming in 1987 as a GFW, after 3 years took my first Herdsman job, milking 100 cows, 7 1/2 years I joined a team of 4 on a 400 cow unit on 3x a day milking, made redundant in 2002 when the Co-op got rid of all their dairy units, went on to a 500 cow unit as a senior herdsman, a year later, due to family pressure, I took on a herd managers roll, looking after 120 cows, plus followers on a family fam, following a bereavement in the farmers family, the cows were sold and so after 5 years there I took on my present posistion, a herd manager, again on a family farm, here I have total responsibility for the unit, no help from the farmer ( a business man), running 120 cows on a Waitrose contract, I have held this position for 9 1/2 years
