Farming background

I come from a beef farming background in Ireland and have over fifteen years’ experience working on our family farm. During this time, I was also employed as a farm worker on another beef farm in my area, on and off for over twelve years. The same employer also had a landscaping company that I involved in the daily running procedures out on site. I have a full clean drivers licence and am experienced in various types of tractor work and comfortable driving ATV’s. Throughout all my previous employments, I have been complimented on my willingness to learn and my ability to work independently or as part of a team. While in New Zealand I worked on a beef, sheep and dairy grazing property at Cave, Timaru and a beef, sheep and deer property called Fairlight Station. From March- April 2017, I was employed as maintenance person on a large holiday park in Te Anau. This position consisted of carpentry, plumbing and landscaping work. The last farm I worked on was a sheep property with 5200 breeding ewes + replacements just outside Lumsden, Northern Southland. In Spring/Summer 2018 I worked on a sheep, beef and tillage farm in the Scottish Highlands. Employed to help out during lambing, calving, tailing etc and was involved with the successful running of the other enterprises on the farm. All positions allowed me to gain valuable experience of the New Zealand and Scottish style of farming and to see how other farmers operate. Long-term, I hope to develop and broaden my skillset on a modern progressive farm and build a career in the agriculture sector.
