The most recent employer I had was a company called Outland Resources whilst I was out in Australia. This was tree planting which is an incredibly physically demanding job, I also had the responsibility of being a driver for them whilst out there. This I did for 8 months until the contract finished and I returned home. Before tree planting I spent 6 weeks working on a pig farm in Queensland called Gooralie which boasts an award for the finest pork in the Southern Hemisphere. I also spent two weeks stick raking on a cattle station again in Queensland. My most recent employment in the UK was on a large outdoor pig breeding herd to freedom food standards. I main role was working on the farrowing which included basic husbandry such a feeding and strawing up as well as recording litters, fostering and weaning. If someone is off work I have taken responsibility for the dry sows or served sows and gilts. I’m also responsible for regumating of all gilts as they come through the system Previously I’d been working on an outdoor pig farm for 5 years. For the last three years I was herd manager, progressing to Farm manager as my bosses chose to give me more responsibility as they focussed on their farm shop / butchery. Tasks include husbandry, managing breeding, managing other workers and machinery operation and maintenance. Whilst studying at Moreton Morrell on day release I worked on the college farm this included milking and scraping out on the dairy unit, work with their sheep including lambing and also some work with their herd of beef cattle. I also assisted my previous land lord with the lambing of his herd of 100 ewes including night lambing.
