Farming background

Although not recent, I have collectively 10 years experience in all aspects of Market Gardening including soil assessment; ordering seeds and dressings, and calculating application rates; preparing beds and weeding using hand tools, mechanised implements or tractorised equipment; sowing seeds either for transplanting, or direct drilling; harvesting by hand or machine; seed saving; seasonal planning and forecasting (weather, temperature and relevant events); and pest and vermin control. Although not organic by definition, many of the traditional methods employed are once again becoming popular with the groundswell of interest in perma-culture principles. Have also worked throughout the vegetable supply trade, including Line Manager of packhouse in Lincolnshire, Greengrocery manager for Asda (Arnold), Sales & Admin for several different firms in Nottm Wholesale Market including catering supplies and also Farm shop/veg box scheme. More recently in Control Room for Notts Police dealt with all aspects of traffic management, including abnormal load escort procedures along with demand management (prioritisation) and resource allocation.

Secretary for National Lurcher & Racing Club, Horticulture steward on Produce committee for Southwell & District Ploughing Match, organise the Dog Show for Hoveringham Vintage Vehicle Rally, (all voluntary positions with no conflict of interest) member of Notts Country Link, Nottm Organic Gardeners, East Midlands Biodynamic Study Group, (no organisational responsibility) and member of an urban chicken-keeping collective
