Watching over ewes and spotting when they were lambing, assisting with births when needed, moving ewe and lambs into separate pens, tail docking and castration, feeding and watering, taking groups out into the field, medicating ill stock, foot trimming, tubbing lambs, numbering ewe and lambs, adopting off lambs via both wet method and using adopters. I have also had to rearing a few lambs from birth as they were unable to be cared for by a ewe. Whilst being at the farm I was also in charge of looking after some work experience students who wanted to learn more about lambing.

large Holstein dairy herd, Belgium blue, Aberdeen Angus and Welsh Blacks, beef cattle and calves. includes completing a health check for all calves, watering and feeding. I assist in calving, collect all newborn calves from mothers and provide first colostrum, with the use of quad bike and trailer. I identify any abnormal behaviours or unwell calves and give medication if required. I prepare all hutches / pens for calves and clean all areas to a high standard including using farm machinery to scrap the yard. I also complete all tagging, dehorning and castrating as and when required. I also identify cows bullying using both computer system and by sight. I assist with milking and moving cattle on the farm. I am responsible for veterinary students and work experience placements on farm.

I attend Young Farmers, my role is program secretary and I arrange the weekly meetings and activities. This can vary from playing sports, to having talks from professionals within the industry or learning how to judge stock for annual competitions (which I have competed in).
